Surveys and interviews revealed that light, low-pressure interactions, like walking with someone casually, offered a unique kind of social value, distinct from time spent with close friends or family.
Participants described these walks as grounding and restorative, a way to connect without obligation. While the idea of walking with people outside one's circle raised questions of comfort and chemistry, it also opened the door to new forms of casual connection, shaping our focus around designing for ease, flexibility, and trust.
“If I meet somebody who doesn't react to nature, it feels like this person is sort of blind and deaf in a way.”
“Yeah, just being around where people are feels good. Yeah, I think it's nice to be somewhere where people are.”
Walk With Me is built around a simple premise: that walking can be a low-pressure, meaningful way to connect with others. From profile previews to soft prompts and visibility controls, each design choice was shaped by user insight and aimed at reducing friction. The final concept focuses on emotional tone and personal choice rather than step counts or performance.
